Blackhorn participated in LightTable’s $22 million Series A, led by Innovation Endeavors, alongside new investors DivcoWest Ventures and 9Yards Capital, with continued support from Primary Venture Partners, MetaProp, and Banter Capital. The financing will support new product development, deeper integrations, and the continued expansion of a team that brings together experienced architecture, engineering, and construction professionals with world-class AI engineer.

Every construction project starts with an extraordinary coordination challenge. A modern building may involve thousands of pages of architectural drawings, engineering plans, specifications, schedules, and other technical documents produced by dozens of specialized firms. Each participant is responsible for one part of the project, but the building must ultimately function as a single, integrated system.
Today, much of the work required to reconcile those documents remains manual. Architects, engineers, contractors, estimators, and consultants review static PDFs, overlay drawings, maintain spreadsheets, exchange emails, and track issues across disconnected software systems. As designs evolve and deadlines approach, reviewers must process more information in less time—making it increasingly difficult to identify every conflict, omission, or inconsistency.
The consequences surface downstream. A discrepancy between architectural and structural drawings becomes an RFI. An equipment conflict becomes field rework. A missing specification becomes a change order. By the time the issue is discovered, materials may have been purchased, trades mobilized, and work installed.

At Blackhorn, we believe the greatest opportunity is not simply to manage construction problems more efficiently once they reach the field. It is to prevent them from reaching the field at all.
LightTable applies multimodal AI to the drawings and specifications that define a construction project. The platform analyzes information across architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, civil, and other disciplines, identifying gaps, conflicts, omissions, and misalignments that can create financial or schedule risk.

LightTable combines this software with expert oversight. Its architecture, engineering, and construction specialists validate and refine the system’s findings, ensuring that customers receive decision-ready insights while generating high-quality feedback that improves the underlying models.
Quality assurance and quality control are the entry point, but the company’s ambition extends much further. Pre-construction includes design coordination, value engineering, estimating, bid leveling, procurement, permitting, compliance, and other interconnected decisions that shape the cost and risk of a project before work begins. Yet these functions are still managed across fragmented teams, documents, and point solutions.
LightTable’s initial QA/QC product gives the company a uniquely valuable position within that ecosystem. It sits upstream, where project information is being created and where the economic consequences of design decisions can still be changed.

As more work moves through the platform, LightTable can capture a proprietary dataset of expert decisions: which conflicts matter, how issues should be prioritized, what changes are constructible, and which design choices are likely to create cost or schedule exposure. That data can support increasingly capable products across value engineering, estimating, permitting, procurement, and the broader preconstruction process.
We believe this is how durable vertical AI businesses will be built. The model itself is only one component. The more defensible advantage comes from combining AI with domain-specific workflows, expert feedback, proprietary decision data, enterprise relationships, and deep integration into the way customers operate.
LightTable’s early adoption demonstrates how urgently the industry is searching for a better approach. The company has worked with leading developers and general contractors across multifamily, commercial, and data-center projects, while reviewing millions of square feet of construction documents.
That combination matters. Construction buyers are not looking for AI experimentation for its own sake. They need systems that can operate on complex, real-world projects, fit within established processes, and produce measurable improvements in project outcomes.
LightTable’s ability to run historical project backtests is particularly compelling. Customers can compare the platform’s findings against issues that later became RFIs, change orders, delays, or rework—making the value of earlier detection tangible before committing to broader adoption.

Paul brings more than two decades of product and operating experience. Dan has spent his career translating advanced machine-learning capabilities into production software. Ben is a licensed architect whose experience gave him direct exposure to the coordination and documentation problems LightTable is solving.
Together, they bring enterprise product leadership, sophisticated AI development, and deep AEC expertise. That founder-market fit stood out throughout our diligence and is difficult for either a horizontal AI company or a traditional construction software provider to replicate.
Blackhorn invests in software that makes the physical economy more productive, predictable, and resource-efficient. LightTable aligns directly with that thesis.
Construction rework consumes labor, materials, capital, and time without creating additional value. Catching errors earlier can reduce unnecessary material use, avoid duplicative work, improve project economics, and help scarce construction professionals focus their expertise on the decisions where it matters most.
Our conviction is grounded in three observations. First, the problem is large, persistent, and economically urgent. Second, QA/QC is a powerful entry point into a much larger opportunity. Finally, this is a team capable of moving between the worlds of AI and construction.
